Here comes the rain again… I can just hear the Erythmics song in my mind as March begins rolling out thunderstorms across the Midwest. I need to get ready to take my girls camping… really soon. We’ve let few people borrow our family tent, and it has several holes that need mending before we take it out for a few nights.
Duck tape and a little needle and thread is all it needs… for now at least. ^_^

I have had several hiking tents over the years, but my small two man really took a beating a few years ago, so time for a new one. There are a lot of new types on the market today… and a lot of new styles.
Check out 1ManTent-8PersonTent.Com for a great selection of specialty tents.

Here is the 3rd Recipe from my book: 101 Camping & Outdoor Recipes. I know you’re goona like this one!

Australian Grilled Fish

4 Fish steaks
1/4 c Lime juice
2 T Vegetable oil
1 t Dijon mustard
2 t Fresh ginger root –,Grated
1/4 t Cayenne pepper
Black pepper

* For the steaks: they should be 8-10 ounces and 1-inch thick each.
Use Swordfish, Halibut or Salmon steaks.

1. In a bowl, combine the lime juice, 1 tablespoon oil, ginger,
cayenne pepper and enough freshly ground black pepper to suit your
taste.

2. Marinate the fish in the marinade for 45-60 minutes. Turn
steaks 2-3 times.

3. Have the grill prepared with white coals and
brush the cooking grill with the remaining one tablespoon oil.

4. Grill the fish, brushing several times with the marinade, until
cooked through and opaque in the center. Turn fish after about 4-5
minutes. Total grilling time will dependon your grill and the heat of
the coals.

* To broil instead, use a broiler pan brushed with oil and broil until
center is opaque. Will take about 10 minutes total in broiler. Turn
steaks after 5 minutes, and baste often with marinade.

Here we are, just beginning to get into march, and BAM! we hit the 60′s. I mean, its been cold this winter… and snow has covered the ground all season long. I love all 4 seasons… winter included, but I really am tired of the cold… and then we get this wonderful day in the mid 60′s!

I spent the whole day outside with just a long sleeve shirt on. I am really loving it. I have been able to stick with my jogging regiment, and enjoyed a little longer run. My legs feel great, no shin splints or knee issues. If you haven’t read the book “Born to Run”, I recommend you do. I am loving my Five Finger shoes. The key is running on the ball of your feet… not impacting on your heel. When I was in the Marine Corps, I ran at least 6 miles a day, but it really took a toll on my legs. Later on, any time I would try to start running again, I would have to stop due to shin splints and my knees bothering me. If you ever watch someone run on a treadmill… listen to that pound, pound, pound as they run. All that impact and jarring is going right to your poor knees, but by running on the ball of your feet (like you do when running barefoot) the impact is totally absorbed and negated. Makes sense to me… so I tried it. Ya know… it works. At least for me.

As far as camping goes, if you are looking for a 1 man tent or a 2, 4, or 8 person tent… check out 1ManTent-8PersonTent.Com. We finally have the site up and running, and have a great selection of hiking tents, backpacking tents, and all sorts of tents for camping. We even have tents for your kids to play in while you are out in the woolies… and why not grab a mini dome for Fido? Heh Heh ^_^ actually, we got em. The site is really new, and we are in the process of adding new products and manufacturers daily… so keep checking back with us every now and then. If you have or have used a product we carry… please feel free to post a comment or rating on it, to help out people looking for something to fit their needs.

OK, getting in the camp out mode yet? I am… so here is recipe #2 from my book 101 Camping and Outdoor Recipes

Antiguan Charcoal Baked Bananas
This Caribbean dessert can be started in leftover coals

6 large ripe bananas, in a bunch
4 tbsp butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground allspice or 1/2 tsp fresh grated nutmeg
3 limes, halved
1/4 cup dark rum, heated in a small pan onside of grill

Set the bunch of unpeeled bananas in hot coals. Bake until black and soft to the touch. Meanwhile, heat butter with brown sugar and spices
until bubbly. Each person should slit his banana, squeeze a lime half over it and drizzle the butter-sugar mixture on top. Ignite rum and pour it flaming over the bananas a little at a time, shaking the skillet gently until the flame dies.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on my blog. Today is March, 4th… and my new website is finally up and running… http://www.1mantent-8persontent.com. I know… long name, but we have all sizes of tents for every need… so the name kinda goes with the function.

I plan on doing all types of interesting posts, especially for everyone who is interested in camping, backpacking, hiking, mountain climbing, and all the other sports that kinda follow in those categories. The first thing on my list is to post a new camping recipe frequently from my eBook 101 Camping and Outdoor Recipes that I have available to download at http://www.outdoorcampingfornewbies.com. Actually there are two eBooks included for 1 very special price. Check it out… really is worth looking at… BUT as I said… I’ll be taking 1 of those recipes and posting them here on the site regularly.

The NEXT thing to mention is this… March is FINALLY here! Today the temperature hit the 50’s… and I couldn’t wait to get out and take a short jog around my block. I began to do a new running regiment just before the winter storms hit… and then totally stopped when it got really cold. I met a guy who works for FEDEX who runs in 100 mile Ultra Runs, and when I told him I loved running, but my legs just couldn’t handle it due to shin splints and knee problems… he referred me to the best selling book Born To Run. In short, the book goes into the benefits of running barefoot. I went out and found a pair of Five Finger shoes by Vibram… and started to relearn how to run. It was amazing… I wasn’t even getting shin splints or knee aches. THEN the snow came…
so… to make a long story short, er… not as long as it could be… I stopped. BUT TODAY I JUMPED BACK ON TRACK! Nice to be there… outside and enjoying a short run without leg problems.

Here is the Recipe for today: 20 Minute Hamburger Skillet Stew
1/4 lb Lean ground beef
1 lg Onion,sliced wafer-thin
4 Carrots,sliced wafer-thin
2 Potatoes,halved, sliced wafer-thin
3 Ribs celery,sliced wafer-thin
1 c Boiling water
2 t Beef extract OR bouillon
2 Bay leaves
1/4 t Dried thyme
Salt OR garlic salt
Pepper 1/4 c Dry red wine OR tomato juice
2 T All purpose flour

Use melon baller and shape meat into tiny meatballs. Brown in
skillet. Discard any fat. Stir onion into skillet and cook 1 min. Add
boiling water or broth and extract or bouillon. Add remaining
veggies, seasonings. Cover, cook over low heat, 15 mins until vegs are
tender. Combine wine or water and flour in covered jar. Shake and stir
into skillet. Cook and stir until sauce is thick, 4 mins.
